Centers

The College of Liberal Arts is proud of its distinguished research centers, created to advance the investigation and analysis of the most important issues facing our students, our communities, our state, and our nation. These Centers enhance learning and community outreach in very special ways and collectively are helping to move Louisiana forward.

Center for Louisiana Studies

The Center for Louisiana Studies was created in 1973 and is recognized as the premier institute for the study of Louisiana history and culture worldwide. Divided into three divisions — the UL Lafayette Press, the Research Division, and the Special Projects Division — it maintains a vast archive of documents and recordings relating to Louisiana life, publishes award-winning books on every aspect of the State, and offers public programming that will draw everyone into what makes Louisiana so special. The Center will soon be relocating to its new home in the historic J. Arthur Roy house, which will lead to greater synergies and community interaction.

The Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Public Policy Center

Established in 2019, the Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Public Policy Center is now a leading public policy research center in the state and beyond, serving Louisianans through policy analysis in the domains of economic opportunity and development, criminal justice reform, healthcare, coastal issues, and governmental ethics. The Blanco Center is a bipartisan interdisciplinary research center that brings together experts and student researchers from different academic areas to tackle pressing problems of public interest.

Speech, Language, & Hearing Center

A flagship of the Department of Communicative Disorders and housed in Burke-Hawthorne Hall, the Speech, Language, and Hearing Center has been serving Acadiana for over 60 years, providing services to a wide variety of individuals with speech, language, and hearing difficulties. The Center also functions as a skills development and research lab, affording opportunities for students and faculty to further our understanding of human communication.
