The College of Liberal Arts is dedicated to investigating and enhancing our knowledge of the world and of humankind through teaching, research, and service.
Historic
The College of Liberal Arts is the oldest and largest college at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and it is dedicated to the overarching principles articulated in the institution's mission statement: excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, in research, and in public service.
Grounded
The primary focus of the Liberal Arts is the consideration and development of intellectual skills that respond to the changing world in which we live. Intellectual and creative foundations of this enterprise are the art of written and oral communication, a keen sense of critical analysis and reasoning, and the ability to employ creative ways to solve problems.
Informed
Each curriculum is based on research and teaching opportunities that span the diversity of the college and present a perspective of the past, an understanding of the present, and the flexibility to face the challenges of the future.
The College of Liberal Arts Strategic Framework
In 2026, the College of Liberal Arts faculty met for a strategic planning session. The purpose of this session was to take a candid and forward-looking look at where the college is heading, including identifying opportunities for growth in new academic programs, strengthening research capacity, addressing faculty and student morale, assessing facilities needs, and planning for the growth and alignment of resources. The fruits of these efforts resulted in a new strategic framework. We are genuinely excited about the work ahead as we begin implementing these priorities. Together, we are building a strong and ambitious future for the college.
