New Minor in the College of Liberal Arts—Critical AI Studies

Beginning in fall 2026, UL Lafayette students can minor in Critical AI Studies.

The minor in Critical AI Studies is designed to provide all students with a foundational understanding of the societal, cultural, ethical, and humanistic impacts of this new technology. The curriculum is designed to be interdisciplinary, combining courses in business, information technology, history, psychology, and informatics to provide students with a broader understanding of the field. As society incorporates this medium into every aspect of our lives, students must be prepared to utilize artificial intelligence ethically, decipher AI-generated communication, and explain the challenges that will arise in multiple disciplines. In this rapidly changing world, this minor is designed for students who want to enhance their critical thinking, ethical skills, and prepare for a job market shaped by artificial intelligence.

Students are required to take INFX 100 and PHIL 340. They can then choose twelve hours from a list of electives. Please visit the UL Lafayette academic catalog for more information on this exciting new minor in the College of Liberal Arts!

All minors require a minimum of 18 credit hours with at least 6 hours at the 300/400-level. All course prerequisites, corequisites, and restrictions apply.
