We’re proud to congratulate Dr. Michael Martin Shea, assistant professor of English, on earning a 2026 PEN America Literary Award for his translation of Liliana Ponce’s Theory of the Voice and Dream. The honor recognizes one of the country’s most distinguished achievements in literary translation and marks the first time Ponce’s poetry has been translated into English.

Shea developed the translation over a decade, drawing on his work as a scholar, teacher and poet.
