CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
 
The American Sociological Association has identified job titles of the majority of persons having a bachelor’s degree in sociology: 34 percent are in such professions as social work, counseling, marketing research and nursing; more than 20 percent are in management or administrative positions; 7.5 percent are in criminal justice; approximately 4 percent are in community service, and 1 percent are in personnel management. The department has a computer laboratory that is used by students and those working on independent study courses with faculty. Such activity improves the career opportunities of majors.

Many students go on to graduate programs in criminal justice, gerontology, hospital administration, law, social work, the political economy, public administration, social justice, social welfare, social work, and sociology.
 
EXPERIENTIAL OPPORTUNITIES
 
Summer, volunteer, or part time work in human services (e.g., senior citizen centers, hospitals, juvenile delinquent group homes, summer camps) governmental agencies, or businesses, independent study with a faculty member, and involvement in student organizations.
