There is a wide range of employment possibilities for graduates trained in public relations. Approximately 44% of all public relations practitioners work in businesses, 27% work in consulting firms, 23% in nonprofits, and 6% in government. Several large corporations have 100 or more practitioners on staff, but four out of five public relations people work in departments with staffs of less than ten. Jobs are most plentiful in large cities, such as New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, and Houston; however, positions can be found in every community regardless of size. Entry-level positions in public relations pay about $25,000 per year, and highly experienced practitioners earn $200,000 or more. |
