Any full-time student enrolled in the College of Liberals Arts is eligible for these scholarships regardless of the department in which they are enrolled.


UL LAFAYETTE ACADEMIC TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to transfer students with a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA; at least 15 earned transfer credits; not including developmental courses or advance placement; admitted to UL Lafayette as a Transfer Student the same semester as the scholarship application; transfer-reentry students are NOT eligible; enrolled as full time student (12 hours) upon entering UL Lafayette and must be a U.S. citizen. Application deadlines are usually November 1st and May 1st. Scholarship pays $350 to $500 per semester based on credits earned and cumulative GPA.

Recipient must be a U.S. citizen, not necessarily be a Louisiana resident, be eligible to enter his/her sophomore, junior or senior year, and majoring in any major in the College of Liberal Arts. Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better and be in upper division. Scholarship pays $500; $250 Fall and Spring semesters. Requires a 3.0 minimum GPA during Fall semester of scholarship year in order to retain scholarship.

THE CONNECTIONS SCHOLARSHIP FOR MATURE AND RETURNING STUDENTS

Recipient must be a U.S. citizen and resident of Acadiana. Preference will be given to a mature woman student between the ages of 26 and 55 -- one either returning to college for a career change, or a mature first-time student (i.e., homemaker/mother wishing to begin a career, etc.) A minimum of 30 semester hours must be completed. Student should have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Financial need will be considered.

LIBERAL ARTS A. L. BARCELONA ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Recipient must be a U. S. citizen and be eligible to enter his/her junior or senior year and majoring in a curriculum in the College of Liberal Arts. Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Student may be transferring to UL Lafayette from another college or university. Scholarship pays $1,000; $500 Fall semester and $500 Spring semester. Requires 2.75 minimum GPA during Fall semester of scholarship year in order to retain scholarship.

UL LAFAYETTE STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIP

Student must be a continuing UL Lafayette student with a minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA. Must never have participated in UL Lafayette Study Abroad Program. Student must be able to explain financial need and the importance of foreign study to their future career goals. Scholarship ranges from $500 to $2,500.

Recipient must be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior. Student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better. If graduating, student can be part-time. Selection based on extracurricular activities (60%), grade point average (30%) and financial need (10%).

HARRY S. TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIP (75-80 nationally)

Applicants must be full-time student with junior level academic standing (or a senior) in the third year of enrollment. Applicants must want to pursue a public service career, and be in a curriculum permitting admission to a graduate program leading to a career in government. Scholarship is worth $30,000 and is to be used for the senior year in college and two-three years of graduate or professional school. Scholarship is awarded during Spring.

Recipient must be a continuing full-time UL Lafayette student at senior level (must have completed 90 hours at the time of scholarship award). Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Must have a record of involvement in UL Lafayette extracurricular activities and/or community, civic and church related activities; and/or employment or homemaking responsibilities. The amount to be awarded is $1,000 annually for for 2 semesters; $500 Fall and $500 Spring.The number of awards to be given each year is 10 (one per college and one for AFA). Additional criteria for the Association of Future Alumni Scholarship a student must be a current member of AFA and have active participation in AFA club events/activities as established by AFA membership.

UL LAFAYETTE AMERICORPS EDUCATION AWARD PROGRAM

The AmeriCorps Community Service Program focuses on strengthening the community through education. Open to all majors; currently enrolled at UL Lafayette in at least six credit hours with a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA and have an excellent and positive attitude. Applicants may choose between a 450 or 900 hour commitment for the 11 month service year. Benefits: All 900 hour members receive a monthly living allowance (currently $440 per month) with an educational award upon successful completion of service; all 450 hour members who are work-study eligible can earn a monthly income for their service through the work-study office (check with the UL Lafayette Financial Aid Office to determine eligibility) with an educational award upon successful completion of service; meet influential people in the community and excellent reference for future job employment.

ZONTA LOUISIANA WOMAN'S SCHOLARSHIP

Type of woman: Be the major wage earner of the family; be an undergraduate; have satisfactory results on SAT/ACT, or entrance exam scores; be accepted at a Louisiana university, college, or Vo-Tech school, in non-remedial courses and be a Louisiana resident and U.S. citizen. Must take a minimum of 6 semester hours. Continuation of funding from semester to semester is contingent upon maintaining a cumulative 2.5 grade point average.
