Five faculty received promotions in the College of Liberal Arts beginning with the 2008-09 academic year. They are as follows:

HUMN 300.002 -- 9:30 - 10:45 am -- Tuesday and Thrusday -- HLG 405 -- Professor Fabrice Leroy Detective Fiction and Film Noir This course will explore key detective novels from both sides of the Atlantic, between the 1930s and the 1990s. We will examine various aspects of the genre, includiing; the private detective character, narrative techniques of crime fiction, the depiction of the modern city, race and gender relations, sociopolitical subtexts, and the evolution of the genre over the course of the century. We will watch several film noirs, including Howard Hawks' The Big Sleep, John Huston's The Maltese Falcon, and Louis Malle's Elevator to the Gallows. All French texts will be read in translation and all French films will have subtitles. No prior knowledge of French is necesssary. |
